Tone & Color

color for skin tone

Wearing the right color for your skin tone is an important key to enhance your undertones. Complimenting your skin tone with the color of your outfit, makeup or accessories can create a breathtaking impact!

I have created a quick pictorial representation to help you understand the basic colors that work for your skin tone. The various skin tones are Very Fair. Fair, Medium/Wheatish, Dark. 4 colors have been chosen, specially keeping the current trends in mind.

Always make sure that the color of your outfit does not end up making you look pale.

Colors like Black, white, grey work with all skin tones and you can never go wrong with them. Add a pop of color and you get your favorite look that brightens your skin tone.

Right Swimwear. Right curves.

Talk about looking your best wherever you go… We look at the right clothes for the occasion, the right color for our skin tone, the perfect pair of jeans, well fitting lingerie and the list goes on! But many of us have never considered the right swimwear for our body type. Did you know, the right swimsuit can make your figure look its very best! whichever style you choose, whether its a two piece or a one piece or something that doesn’t “show too much skin”.

FACT – Any swimwear you choose, will invariably show a good amount of skin. So it is definitely important to figure out the right one so that showing skin would not be a big deal 🙂

I have met so many women who choose not to swim because they are so conscious with the way they look in their swimsuit. Ladies, its all about knowing what is right and wrong for your body shape. Everyone is unique – both in the way they look and the choice of style they feel works for them. But sometimes, it is more important to understand, that the fit of the style is more important than anything else. To make a garment look good on you, its best to understand your body shape, your curves and what to highlight or conceal.

To begin with, there are 7 female body shapes. Yes, thats right, seven!

Triangle, Inverted Triangle, Rectangle, Diamond, Tubular, Oval & Hourglass

I will elaborate about each body shape along with the right swimwear.

1. OVAL & DIAMOND- A full coverage ruched style would work for curvy body shapes like the Oval, Diamond and Hourglass. This style gives a illusion of a fit figure covering the variations around the waist, bust and hips and showing just the right amount of curves that make a perfect curvy silhouette. The lines and texture work wonders in making you look sexy. Make sure you choose single colors and color blocked patterns. Avoid the oversized rounded patterns or anything too floral and colorful.

DIAMOND BODY SHAPE – The variation is around the waist with relatively smaller or narrower hips and shoulders.

OVAL BODY SHAPE – The body size is above the average weight range with more curves and a more rounded silhouette

2. TRIANGLE & RECTANGLE – Styles that work for these body shapes would be a halter neck one piece, bikinis with moulded cups or even contrasting prints. For a smaller bust, neon colors and fancy prints like the aztec, checks, stripes or florals could enhance and give a bolder look to your body type. You could also try out bikinis with frills and ruffles! Never say no to plain colors as even a really bright color like a yellow or a pink could work beautifully in highlighting the right curves. Swimwear with cut aways at the waist work well for a toned triangle or rectangle. Look out for swimwear with angular shapes like the V neck or criss-cross back to create attention towards the right curves. A full coverage swimsuit works in concealing the variation around the hips or waist (high waist hipster styles make your legs look longer and your waist slimmer!).

TRIANGLE BODY SHAPE – Variation around the hips with a smaller bust and narrower shoulders

RECTANGLE BODY SHAPE – Shoulders, waist and hips are equal in width, average or slightly above average in weight.

3. TUBULAR – Work with pretty much any style! You could go bold and wear the brightest of colors to give an illusion of a curvy silhouette or you could use medium sized floral prints in two tones for a more trendy look. To minimize angularity, work with rounded and curved silhouettes instead of angular shapes as they work better and add fullness to your body shape. You could try a high neck bikini or a cropped style bikini as these would cover the angularity of your bust and waist. Floral, polka dots, abstract and ombre are interesting styles to consider.

TUBULAR BODY SHAPE – Below the average weight range with the shoulders, waist and hips equal in width.

HOURGLASS & INVERTED TRIANGLE – Full coverage and firm underwired styles would support a large bust perfectly well! A style with thicker tie ups or a fancy three string halter would be ideal for these body shapes. Make sure you try out the 60’s look with high waisted shorts and bold, V neck halter bikini to highlight the curves just right! Accentuate your waist line with frill detailing, deep backs and cut aways.

HOURGLASS BODY SHAPE – Narrow waist with relatively larger/broader shoulders/chest and hips.

INVERTED TRIANGLE BODY SHAPE – Broader shoulders, larger bust with relatively narrower hips and waist.

Every swimsuit style has a few cues for you to follow. These cues tell you whether the style enhances or conceals your curves. What do you wish to do? 🙂

Light yet Bright

Light yet Bright

Simple is sexy!!

Its always good to wear light accessories that wouldn’t clash with the colors of what you wear.

Even though the white skirt attracts more attention, its definitely good to accentuate the top by giving more attention by wearing a simple accessory. it also highlights your collarbones and makes you look fabulous for any occasion! 🙂

Try it!

Go Floral

Go Floral

These days I have seen a lot of designers working with floral prints and patterns in their collections.

they always look great when worn correctly. I believe that there should be a balance in the entire outfit.

Its quite a challenge for alot of us to carry of prints that are so bold and colorful.
The combination I have put together is a good example of a balanced outfit for a lunch date, a business lunch (if you are in the creative and communication field), a pool party, or even a formal lunch with your boss. It all works well 🙂

The florals are doing the rounds right now and if you plan to update that wardrobe, buy one of these numbers.

Go Floral!

Green & Lace

Green & Lace

One of my favourite combinations!
I absolutely LOVE racer backs! They are comfortable, trendy, smart and can be worn with anything or just as is.

The lace number is another MUST HAVE. Its timeless and enhances your look..

Couple these with a hot pair of denim shorts, suede heels and a little bag.

WIN 🙂

The Pocket Square frenzy

Figured that there are more than 50 pocket square designs. Some really classy ones, mind you.

How to go Skinny the right way?

Nah, definitely nothing to do with “being skinny” here. What we are talking about is Skinny Jeans.. how to choose the right one for yourself? We all tend to make mistakes here by choosing the right color but the wrong style for you.. some of us have even chosen jeans that make us look twice our size.

So jeans being the standard, most comfortable and sexy part of your wardrobe, you need to be a little wise about what is the right one. 🙂

Here goes..

Body Shapes & Sizes – Yes, this is the most important thing to understand when you are choosing your skinny jeans, and mind you, not only this, but your entire wardrobe should be able to embrace your body shape the right way!

if you have the Curves And Hips

If you do have a curvier body shape, wearing skinny jeans tucked into mid-calf/knee high boots will balance out the lower leg portion, while wearing a longer shirt or tunic that hits just below the butt will flatter the top half.

if you are Slim And Straight

If you have a straighter figure, more so what they call the boyish shape or fashion model style, I would say that a low rise can be very flattering. Crop your jeans at the calves or just get them tailored and fitted, it enhances your entire look from head to toe.

if you are Petite

If you are petite then wearing a skinny jean with a high rise, pumps and a shirt/blouse tucked in at the waist can really elongate your legs for a more dressier look, but for casual I would recommend a low rise skinny jean that’s super skinny all over.

If you are Tall

For the taller ladies, they are very lucky as they can pretty much get away with just about any skinny jean on the market.

Butt Shapes – Your pair of jeans has to look pretty all over and not just in front.. we all know that. Having a really cool front and a horribly done back, will just kill your look. Always look at your pockets at the back before rating your jeans a full 10.

A few simple tips to remember are make sure the back pockets are symmetrical and in line with each other, make sure they are not too big or too small and also make sure they are a flattering shape; the classic pocket with the V at the bottom is always the best in my opinion.’

For smaller/flatter butts –

Image

Go for pockets that are slightly higher up to give an illusion of a fuller butt. Picking jeans with back pockets that are also slightly wider apart will create the illusion that you have a wider butt, however this isn’t always very flattering and can look bad if they are placed to far apart. The best option would be picking central back pockets with a higher positioning.

For Bigger/Rounder butts –

Image

I wouldn’t recommend high positioned pockets as they look very odd on fuller butts. The perfect position for pockets are where the bottom of the pocket (as it dips into a V shape) hits just at the bottom of your cheeks (where the cheek meets the thigh).

LEG SHAPES – This is another tricky one to figure but its important to know these minute things for a useless and practical purchase.

Athletic/Fuller Legs

If you have more muscular/athletic or fuller legs then I would recommend choosing a 12 inch skinny jean, or something around that proportion, as it will fit a lot like a slimmer skinny jean.

Very Slim Legs

Go for ankle peg skinny jeans with a 10inch leg opening or less. They fit well and don’t hug too tight which gives a little breathing space for your legs.

– Enhancing that figure – Skinny jeans are supposed to enhance your figure and give you a sexy silhouette even at your most casual occasion. After all we women have the right curves to flaunt and jeans, even though covering up pretty much, they are by far the most stylish pieces you could own.. and inexpensive too. Make sure your jeans fit well at your hips and don’t make you look sloppy. Im sure you wouldn’t want them slipping off when you sit or do any kind of work or while walking. Depending on your body shape, figure out where exactly would you want your jeans to sit.

So what is your shade?

Medium Wash

Light Wash

Different washes also create certain illusions – for example, dark colors make you look slimmer, lighter shade make your curves look more prominent. And if you want to be safe, a medium wash works just perfect 🙂

Today, people are even sporting the colored skinny jeans. They do look really trendy but not on everyone. They are colors after all and each color works differently on each body shape. So tomorrow if you see someone sporting that hot red skinny number, do go binge shopping without knowing what exactly suits you. You wouldn’t want to look like the slightly sober version of Lady Gaga ;P
