Know Your Wine glass?

Image

If you are a wine drinker, it is always good to know the basics at least, if not the name of the wine ( which is also important). A lot of us appreciate the taste, smell and texture of wine. When served, many of us don’t know which wine goes into which glass. In a growing country like India, many people are still figuring out the importance of what I would call “Wine Knowledge”. A handful are pretty well versed with the concept, but the point is to make sure all wine drinkers know the basics of this beautiful drink.

This post is all about getting the Wine Glass right. It is simple, but can be forgotten. So read on carefully to get a better idea about how to drink your wine. 😀

So, for starters – Pretty much all wine glasses have a base, a stem and a bowl. The base makes your glass stand, the slick stem has been specially designed for you to hold your glass to avoid heating up your wine and the bowl plays the most important role.. Heres how :

– Red Wine Glass –

The Red Wine glass is fuller and rounder with a big mouth allowing you to take in the complex aromas of the wine.

There are two types of Red Wine Glasses – Bordeaux & Burgundy.

Bordeaux glass is taller and mainly used for Cabarnets and Merlots. The tallness of the glass allows the wine to reach the back of your mouth to get the fullness of the taste.

The Burgundy glass is for lighter, full bodied wines such as Pinot Noir. The glass is not tall but it is slightly wider than the Bordeaux glass to enable the tongue to taste the delicate flavors.

– White Wine Glass

The White Wine bowl is U shaped allowing the aromas to be released while in cool temperature.

There are two types of white wine glasses – one for younger white and one for mature whites.

For the younger whites, the glass has a slightly larger opening allowing the wine to reach the tip and sides of the tongue to taste its sweetness.

For the mature whites, the glass is taller and straighter to allow the bolder flavors of the wine to reach the back and sides of the tongue.

– Sparkling Wine Glass –

A Sparkling Wine glass (or a flute) is narrow and upright to capture the flavor and retain the carbonation.

– Dessert Wine Glass –

A Dessert Wine glass is small in size to direct the wine to the back of the mouth so that the sweetness is not overwhelming. These wines are usually served in small quantities because of their high alcohol content.

ENJOY YOUR WINE 🙂

The “VPL” problem

You must be thinking what on earth is a VPL. Well, it’s every woman’s worst enemy… And some men relate to that too. A VPL (Visible Panty Line) is a big BIG image breaker. It ruins your entire look. Your favourite white pants look like a disaster and your butt doesn’t look as shapely as it should.

So, here are a few pointers to keep in mind before you decide to wear that pencil skirt or fitted dress :

– underwear should fit properly and not be too tight for your size as that can look terrible.

– boy shorts work well for many people. It provides full coverage and gives a smooth look.

– for a roundish figure and to conceal the love handles, high waist numbers work best. Make sure the panty fits just right so that it’s not too tight neither is it too loose.

– Choose the right fabric! It is important to be as comfortable as you wish but it is also important to take care of your dressing to look and feel confident. Fabrics like spandex and elastic don’t always work but there are seamless panties available in various blends that fit the bill. Cotton being the most comfortable and safest, is definitely a must have in everyone’s wardrobe but doesn’t always look good when the fitted clothes are worn. Cotton is usually worn with regular fitting and loose clothes, for example, linen pants or palazzos.

– choose the right colour depending on your outfit. For example, if you are wearing white or peach, don’t act bold and go for a contrast colour inside. Your idea of being elegant goes right down the dirty drain. It’s always advisable to match your inners with your skin tone when wearing light colours.

– wearing a thong is the safest way to avoid VPLs but also not very comfortable for many women.

– another alternative could be wearing a body suit or a “tummy tucker” as we call it to avoid not only the VPL but also the unwanted bulges. Yes, why do you think some of the celebrities look so slick in their fitted gowns? You just got your answer if you didn’t know that all this while.

A tummy tucker starts from the higher waist right till the thighs depending on your requirement 🙂

– always try on your fitted clothes before buying them. See if you are comfortable with the choice of your inner wear. It’s not a very nice feeling to wear something that doesn’t enhance your image.
